Director of JSW Sports

Sourav Ganguly, former Indian captain, has been appointed as the director of JSW Sports. He will now take charge of cricketing decisions in the company which includes various leagues like IPL and Women’s Premier League, Delhi Capitals and SA20 Pretoria Capitals. In IPL and WPL, JSW Sports and GMR Group jointly manage Delhi Capitals.

However, JSW Sports is the sole owner of Pretoria. JSW has said in an advertisement that Ganguly will manage all the assets of JSW Sports which includes Delhi Capitals men’s team and Delhi Capitals women’s team and Pretoria Capitals which plays in South Africa.

Achievements of Sourav Ganguly

After taking over as BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly joined Delhi Capitals in 2019. He returned to Indian cricket after being appointed as Ricky Ponting’s advisor.

Ganguly was appointed soon after the GMR Group and JSW Group agreed on terms that would see the Capitals manage the IPL and WPL teams for a period of two years.

Delhi Capitals’ IPL operations will be managed by GMR Group for the next 2 years and its WPL team will be managed by JSW Sports.

Coach in IPL 2025

Former India batsman Hemang Badani is likely to be appointed as coach in IPL 2025.

Parth Jindal, founder of JWS Sports, commented on Sourav Ganguly’s appointment and said that Dada will always hold a special place in JWS. He was like a family to us before becoming a big cricketer.

He also said that I have already said and said more which is true. His mind is one of the sharpest minds in cricket. And we want that we will benefit from his guidance and knowledge of the game.

On this Sourav Ganguly said that it is a matter of great fortune for me that I got a chance to know the Jindal family and JSW Group closely and professionally.

Achievements of Delhi Capitals coach Hemang Badani

Delhi Capitals announced former India cricketer Hemang Badni as head coach and Venu Gopal Rao as cricket director. They announced the new team ahead of IPL 2025.

Badni has experience of 40 ODIs and 4 Test matches and has been coaching cricket for 47 years. Which makes him perfect to be a strong coach. He has been the fielding coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2021 to 2023 and after that he has also been their batting coach.

He was also the batting coach for Sunrisers Eastern which won the first SA20 and under his coaching, Jaffna Kings won the Lanka Premier League twice in a row.

He was also the coach of Dubai Capitals, one of the teams that progressed to the IL T20 Finals this year.

Venu Gopal Rao

Badni thanked Delhi Capitals and said that it was a great honour for him to be a part of Delhi Capitals and he was very grateful to them for the trust they put in him for this job.

With the auction, my role has been confirmed along with the rest of our coaching team and I am looking forward to moving forward. He has represented India in 16 One Day Internationals, was a member of the 2009 winning Deccan Chargers team and previously played with Delhi Daredevils in 3 IPLs.

He has been associated with Dubai Capitals previously as a coach and then as its cricket director. His name is Venu Gopal Rao.

Rao said in his statement that I am looking forward to new challenges before entering the new IPL cycle. Delhi Capitals were in second place in 2021 but since then, i.e. for the last 3 years, they are facing difficulties in making it to the top 4 teams.

Delhi Capitals Chairman and Co-Owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi welcomed Hemang and Venu to Delhi Capitals. He said that both have always been important members of our team and their joining has brought excitement to our team.

Given their demonstrated success as coaches, we are sure that both of them can play an important role in bringing success to Delhi Capitals.
