Paralympic archery is for those people who are handicapped, those people who are different from normal archers, some don’t have hands, some don’t have eyes, but they want to play.

Paralympics emphasizes the skill, accuracy and concentration of those players.

Classification

Athletes in Paralympic archery are known for their disabilities.

W1 :- Like if someone has some deficiency in his torso or some deficiency in his legs, then the category of these people is different.

W2:- Athletes who have torso control but have arm or leg disabilities.

Open:- And there is another category in which all other deformed disabled people come.

Equipment

Wheelchairs:- Specially designed for stability and mobility of disabled athletes.

Bow Types:- Recurve, compound and longbow as individual needs for disabled athletes.

Assistive Devices:- This is essential to aid in drawing and aiming.

Competition

The competition includes individual and team rounds. Players aim from a set distance and hit the target with full concentration.

Rules

Scoring:- The distance of the arrow from the centre point of the target is based on the points awarded.

Rounds:- The number of arrows is already fixed in the given time.

Time Limits:- Every shot has a fixed time to maintain fair play.

Training

The focus is on improving the athlete’s essentials such as technique, strength and mental toughness in order to be classified.

Difference Between Archery and Para Archery

Archery:- This game is played by people of all abilities in which a person shoots an arrow at a target with a bow.

Para Archery:- This archery game is specially designed for physically challenged people.

Classification

Archery:- In this sport of archery, there is no selection based on any physical ability, it is open to all types of athletes.

Para Archery:- The sport of archery has divisions such as W1, W2, and Open to accommodate different types of physical disabilities and to ensure fair play of the sport.

Equipment

Archery:- Standard bows and arrows; traditional equipment.

Para Archery:- Specialised aids such as wheelchairs, special bows and assistive devices for different types of disabilities.

Rules and Adaptations

Archery:- In this, there are same rules for every athlete, there are no separate rules for any physically handicapped person.

Para Archery:- In this sport of archery, some special rules have been made for the handicapped people so that they can aim properly like using a wheelchair or getting special equipment for someone to pull the bow.

Competitions

Archery:- Open competitions for all participants.

Para Archery:- Competitions in this sport are organised under different categories and are sometimes held alongside mainstream archery.

Training

Archery:- In this event athletes work more on their technique, strength, and skill development.

Para Archery:- In this sport, athletes work hard to overcome their physical challenges and perform well accordingly.

Rules for Paralympic Archery

In Paralympics, the rules are made similar to those of Olympic Games, but special considerations have been given to accommodate disabled athletes.

Classification

Athletes are divided into different categories based on their physical abilities. Here people with similar disabilities are kept in one category and competition is held without any discrimination.

Equipment

Bow Types:- In this, the contestants can use 2 types of bows, either they can use a recoil bow or a compound bow, this choice will be their personal choice and based on their disability.

Adaptive Equipment:- Some archers with disabilities may use additional accommodations such as mouth tabs, mechanical releases, or modified bows.

Competition Format

Rounds:- Archery competition consists of several types of rounds. Such as ranking round (in this round athletes shoot a numbered number of arrows to determine placing) and knockout round (where matches are held against each other).

Distances:- The distance here is 70 meters for outdoor competition and 18 meters for indoor competition. There is also a specific distance for different types of competition and categories.

Scoring

Target and Scoring:- There are many rings on the target of an archer, out of which the ring in the middle has the most points. The archer gets points according to whichever ring his arrow hits.

Shooting Rules

Number of Arrows:- In a normal match, archers shoot a certain number of arrows (usually six).

Time Limits:- Athletes must shoot their arrows at each end in a specific time, such as 2 minutes for 6 arrows in individual events.

Match Structure

Head-to-Head Matches:- In a knockout match, athletes compete against each other. The winner of the match is selected for the next round, the loser is eliminated and whoever wins gets a gold medal.

Safety

Safety Regulations:- All athletes with disabilities must follow necessary safety guidelines which include wearing the right gear and following safe shooting rules.

All these rules for Paralympic Archery ensure that the sport is inclusive and fair for players with different disabilities so that they can progress and have the best opportunities
